Start with the month you have.
A simpler way to see what comes in, what is due and what you want to keep moving.
Most people do not lose track of money because they are careless. They lose track because the facts sit in too many places: a salary account, two cards, a few UPI apps, a handful of auto-debits and a policy renewal that arrives once a year. This topic is for the first step, which is simply seeing what you have, what is due and when.
The guides here do not ask you to build a perfect budget. They show you how to list every account, card and auto-debit, which due dates to look at first (rent, bills, card payments), and how a short monthly review keeps the picture current. If you have not looked at your money for a few months, there is also a guide written for exactly that moment.
Everything in this section is general education. It explains how to gather and read your own records. It does not tell you what to buy, sell or cut.
Questions this topic answers
- How do I start if I have not looked at my money in months?
- Which due dates should I check first each month?
- What counts as a money inventory, and what goes on it?
- Why do budget spreadsheets stop working after a few weeks?
- How long should a monthly money review take?
A small way to start
- Write down every bank account, card and wallet you use. Balances can be approximate for now.
- List the fixed payments that leave your account each month: rent, EMIs, bills, subscriptions.
- Pick one day a month, such as the 1st, to look at the list again for fifteen minutes.
